Canada is at grave risk. Do not let the harper conservatives mislead you with hopes of a strong economic Canada. This is not their intention. Canada has seen its violent crime dip over the last 5 years and yet we are building super jails... These are not to house violent criminals. Granted jail is where you go if you break the law but I believe these jails will have a much more nefarious purporse. I am going to come right out and say it, these jails are being made to house the brave Canadians who protest the coming tyranny. Many of you will say this can't be, and thats not true but when you look at the trend of our economy and that of our violent crime you will notice the two rise and fall hand in hand. So the question is then what does harper know that we don't? I have seen a Canadian jail on the inside and I can assure you they were not so full that we would need a further 22 !!!! new jails in all the provinces. You must dig deeper to see this is a very scary time to be a proud Canadian with the will to have your voice be heard. We have seen our economy tied to America over the last 20 years in such a way that almost assures of our mutual destruction should that nihilistic country fail. You and I must find the strength to resist. We cannot wait for someone else to right things the onus is on You and I. This is OUR country and therefore the responsibilty is ours to right the wrong. My interpretation of this paper and others of the same subject is that Canada and Mexico have been all that has stopped the struggling US economy from faltering. If you love our Country as I do take no options off the table to defend it.
A report I read today about bill C-10 and its effects on the provinces stated that this bill could add 1000 people a day to Quebec jails. Quebec has taken the firmest stand against this bill and rightly so. This bill is paving the way for private jails to enter into the canadian justice system. The groundwork has been laid already as NAFTA gives american companies the right to sue our government to do buisness in OUR country. To the canadian government you must understand the choice to privatize is an easy one. The government will no longer have to pay maintenance or the salaries of the guards. To us they would claim fiscal responsbility and thus open the door to people being incarcerated longer than necessary. One look into the american for profit prison industry is all you need to see the base corruption of these companies. Ask yourself if this is the kinda of Canada you want for your kids.

Agreed. The people who would be jailed would be the gentle ones, the non-(physically)-violent, whose only offence would be harsh words. Arizona (you know, Sheriff Arpaio etc.) is passing a law which would severly punish those who, with words alone, offend, irritate, annoy, and otherwise make celebrities, rulers, rich people, poh-leeesss, and other "gosh-darned" favoured folk "upset", if they do it via "electronic means", meaning mostly email to state legislators, senators etc. They call it "harrassment", in order to get around the Free Speech amendment of the Constitution. If that can happen in the "freedom-loving" State of Arizona, with all of the Bill of Rights protection at the U.S. Federal level, it can even more likely happen here in Canada, with our loosy-goosy Diefenbaker "Bill of Rights", with all its exceptions and "notwithstandings". I wouldn't put it past the Harperites.

It has progressed quite a bit in Canada already. The new Omnibus crime bill obviously targets young people. This is Harpers version of Nixon's war on drugs in the 70's. He is using the tough lettering in the bill on pedophiles to attack anyone who challenges this bill.

Wake up, Canadians! Wake up and see what is happening to YOU. NOT YOU, you say? Harpers broadening of the definition of "crime" is going to take precious rights away from you.
The power-elite are using political battering rams such as the IMF and NAFTA to steamroll over previously sacred and untouchable charter territory.
Many of our forefathers fought and died on foreign soil to preserve our rights. The sacred charter ground needed only to be outlined by the most unimposing of fences... indeed, no more than an outline as it were.
That's because the aforementioned "outline" was a check written in blood and could be cashed anytime into guts, backbone and intestinal fortitude.
Sadly, those that possessed these prized qualities now lay mouldering in the very soil they fought to protect.
The new enemy is much, much more cunning and dangerous than Hitler could have dreamed of being. The new enemy dreams of the political, moral and economical enslavement of the entire planet.
Thank God those who gave all to protect our rights are not here to watch us hand those same rights over to the enemy without so much as a word of protest.
I fervently hope they cannot see how foolish and cowardly we are. I am sickened at the prospect of leaving my children such a mess.
What would they say to us? They would say nothing. They'd Sense our fundamental lack of courage and our intense fear of offending anyone with non politically correct language. Once again, they'd step in front of us as guardians and do our dirty work.
Coming home bloodied and battlescarred, they would stop just long enough to repair the little fence again. The fence that we let rot and crumble just like our pride as Canadians.
Wake up and scream "NO" to those that would offer you up as slaves to their rich cronies.
Wake up and dig your heels in.
