OTTAWA, Nov. 9, 2011 /CNW/ - Protestors at Occupy Ottawa have notified the police of a biological hazard attack after their safety team members discovered over 400 used needles on one of their regular patrols on the night of November 8th.
The needles were scattered in a systematic way around the perimeter of the park stretching down to the National Arts Centre. Although the campers are still combing the ground, no needles have been found in the encampment itself.
"We regularly monitor the park for suspicious activity, and we have determined that this was a deliberate attack against the Occupation," said Mitchell Broughton, an Occupy Ottawa protester who discovered one of the needles, placed at the park's entrance near Laurier Avenue. "It would be absurd to consider this to be the result of massive drug use. This is clearly an attempt to discredit us."
Occupy Ottawa does not condone the use of drugs and alcohol and is taking this situation seriously. Police are currently investigating.

Fake needles added to the real ones?

Come on. Yes, I believe that the many needles that were scatered was done so to cause problems.
But it's not like there is no drug use, need use in the park, by occupiers. Those needles found may be fake, but there are needles lying around, and needle disposal spots on the grounds.
So don't act all surprised, because it's not new to the camp.

Unfortunately there is a lots of needle use in the downtown core. That's why we have needle drop boxes around the city, that's why we have a clean needle syringe program, and people who actually walk around the area collecting needles. I've personally come across people hooting up and have seen discarded needles. This is probably a news flash to some of the Occupy Ottawa protesters.
Abuse of drugs and alcohol

Abuse of drugs and alcohol use are not tolerated on the occupy site. Though there may very well be legal prescription drug users occupying.
But don't forget that drug and alcohol abuse are symptoms of the system, and occupy is there to bring attention to the ills of the symptom - a system that shuts down proven drug rehabilitation strategies, and would prefer to leave addicts to die homeless on the streets.
Drug addicts are the victims of the current political system.
Occupy is simply the messenger.

This is disgusting. This to me is shows involvement on some level by the authorities. Confed park has as most of you know an extensive camera system. The perpetrators of this vile act also must have had a ready supply of medical waste or possibly to a needle exchange. This speaks to the lengths some will go to attack the brave men and women of occupy ottawa. It also shows in my opinion how afraid some are of what the movement represents.

I'm so proud of your efforts and your ethics ,you inspire the people myself included , i guess it's time to come visit and see for myself how i can help , posters , cooking , cleaning and such , i'm a homemaker with a 14 year old who hopes to see a better world for her to grow up in .
