Ladies and gentlemen,
Occupy Ottawa Arts & Culture cordially invites you to a Full Moon Masquerade on the evening of December 10th, meeting at Confederation park at 4:30. That day marks the international day of human rights and will be celebrated by actions put on by the Direct Action Committee throughout the day. We chose to celebrate the full moon because for millennia it was the monthly day of worship and gathering for ancient peoples all over the world. The global revolutionary movements of today are the masses returning to culture of direct experience. We’re taking our lives back from the institutions and individuals who’ve been making decisions on our behalf, without our consent. For this we celebrate with all our glory. We aspire to continue full moon celebrations and other meaningful celestial events.
Each full moon has its own intersection of themes which informs the celebrations we’d like to have. They represent the closing of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. This month’s full moon is influenced by Sagittarius and Gemini, falling on International Human Rights Day. Sagittarius is the great centaur, half human, half horse, yielding a powerful bow and arrow. Gemini is the twin masks, shifting sensibilities and emotions. The day of human rights is to appreciate the fundamental rights meant to be enjoyed by all people. We call on all who attend to embody the spirit of the great centaur, to move out of old comfort zones and into a new sense of strength, purpose and adventure. For Gemini, we reflect on the bonds that have formed from the successes and disappointments; the joys and sorrows we’ve gone through since the beginning of the occupation. Please wear a mask to acknowledge the surreal and global nature of our movement. Since it is the international day of human rights, we invite you to wear a costume inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
This event will have opening and closing ceremonies, DJs and live music. We hope to work with any interested individuals or working groups to ensure success. This event will formally close the first chapter of our new lives as perpetual activists and members of the global uprising. It begins the next chapter of creating specific intentions and manifesting the world we wish to live in.
Here’s looking forward to many beautiful encounters,
Maxim “Salvador Dali Lama” Cossette and the Arts and Culture Team
